Project Coordinator

 Location: Tokyo

Project Coordinator is to identify and secure a pipeline of renewable energy opportunities across all renewable technologies including wind, solar and biomass for Acacia Renewables and once the sites have been secured, to deliver the required project land and permitting for each project to allow the projects to progress to detailed engineering design and NTP.

  • Collaborative working across small project team including development, engineering, technical, legal and financial functions within the company and externally

Key Accountabilities

Origination of new sites for wind, solar and biomass

  • Responsible for managing the land and permitting development aspects of projects

  • Take a leading role in securing all necessary permits for the project. This will be achieved through establishing local stakeholder relationships and managing such relationships

  • Maintain landowner relationships with both private and public land owners and manage such relationships

  • Lead responsible person to secure all project land including met mast, transmission line, substation and site land for both public and private land. Including managing the inheritance process, background checks, land designations etc.

  • Manage land and permitting issues related to e.g. agricultural and forestry land designations

  • Attend local meetings relating to the project and identify when senior Acacia team members are required to support

  • Produce the first draft of project documents, with support for third party consultants for review and sign-off by the Project Control / Head of Development

  • Form part of the team scoping the Environmental Impact Assessment and support the consultant who is undertaking such work

  • Leading the preparation of permitting applications alongside external consultants and internal resource

  • Be the first point of contact for all community stakeholder relations

  • Working closely with the new sites team and other development colleagues to ensure projects are successfully delivered

  • Provide the inputs for the preparation of project plans and budgets for land and permitting items of development

  • Direct contact and management of external stakeholders (Local Government, Prefectural government, landowners, etc) to obtain the necessary approvals and permits.

  • Establishing and managing of external consultants (land and permitting related) and their workload for all land and permitting activities

  • Weekly internal reporting on project progress

  • Ensure that all external consultants that are working on Acacia Projects are working in accordance with the required Acacia Health, Safety, Quality and Environment procedures and relevant H&S legislation

  • Ensuring internal approvals are obtained for all project documents/phases and that these have been adequately reviewed by the relevant departments

  • Hands-on negotiation of contracts, term sheets, proposals and other legal documents for development related areas

  • Bring key decisions to a risk committee to obtain approval

  • Co-ordinate the production, obtaining approval and submission for key project documents e.g. grid, permitting & land related documents

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the renewables development process

Skills & Requirements

  • Good communication skills applied both internally and externally

  • Experience with land assembling and permitting for development projects in Japan

  • Experience with delivering project Environmental Impact Assessments would be a distinct advantage

  • Experience in community liaison and stakeholder management

  • Assisting with projects, programmes and budgets

  • Ability to work independently and to take responsibility to deliver results

  • Excellent communication and commercial negotiation skills

  • Experience in wind, biomass and/or solar energy development with a strong network in industry preferred

  • Specialist forestry experience

  • Experience of working within a global organization and a multicultural team

  • Stakeholder management experience

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with unquestioned ethics and integrity

  • Strong team player able to work within a small team and flexible to support the growth of the business

  • Degree or equivalent in an environmental, engineering, planning or science or business based subject

  • Must have strong Microsoft Office skills

  • Business level of English capability

  • Valid driving license

  • Unquestioned ethics and integrity
