Project Engineering Manager

 Location: Tokyo

Reporting to the CEO of Acacia Renewables K.K., the Project Engineering Manager will be responsible for coordinating all engineering aspects of delivering renewable energy projects through development to ready for construction.

 

You will work with the development and other engineering teams in Japan to progress the projects and will be expected to be involved in other areas of the project development work as necessary.

Organisational Context

  • The Project Engineering Manager is likely to be from a civil / construction engineering background to complement the electrical engineering skills already in the team

  • Provide all project engineering input to the Project Control and RC to support decision making

  • Work closely with the Electrical Engineer to coordinate engineering input for the projects

  • Work closely with the Project Co-ordinator and support delivering their activities

  • Work within a small focused team, with an open flexible approach to your work, assisting in all aspects of project development

  • Due to the small size of the operation in Japan, you are expected to cover other than your specialist, all engineering aspects required to deliver projects, including but not limited to, civil engineering, electrical engineering, permitting, environmental assessment and project management

  • Work alongside the Project Control

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the Head of Development and wider development team in delivering the business plan targets for renewable energy projects

  • Take a leading role in negotiating equipment supply (including Turbine Supply Agreements), EPC agreements and managing EPC during construction, where appropriate

  • Where required, recommend third party consultants to support the engineering aspects of the projects. Negotiate such contracts and set the scope of such works then ongoing management of these consultants

  • Designing and/or managing third party design resources to prepare engineering solutions to wind/solar/biomass project development including foundations, crane hardstandings, drainage systems and culverts, open excavations, earthworks, access road alignment and junction improvements

  • Project Engineering Support to include all aspects of completing civil engineering site assessments and writing reports on such matters as; Engineering feasibility, Infrastructure requirements, accessibility, Delivery routes, Design for natural disasters, surveys e.g. SI, Grid route

  • Carrying out option appraisal of differing engineering solutions including cost, program, health and safety and environmental implications

  • Liaising with external designers to ensure effective co-ordination between all aspects of the engineering and environmental design

  • Liaising with local authorities/road authorities in developing the designs for projects and meeting requirements for obtaining permits

  • Keeping abreast of technical, market and regulatory rule changes related to engineering aspects and installation of projects that may impact Acacia’s business in Japan

  • Ensure that all internal employees and external consultants are working in accordance with Acacia Renewables Health, Safety, Quality and Environment procedures and relevant H&S legislation

Knowledge

  • Adept Negotiator with sound business judgment

Skills & Requirements

  • Strong project management skills based on strategic thinking, with a deep understanding of renewable regulation, civil and grid requirements in Japan is required.

  • Self-motivated, entrepreneurial and with teamwork and result-oriented personality.

  • Master’s degree or equivalent

  • Must have strong Microsoft Office skills (including Project)

  • Experience using CAD software for design works

  • Business level of English capability, TOEIC score above 850 is a plus

  • Unquestioned ethics and integrity.
